At STREAM Montessori School, our bilingual program goes beyond simple language instruction. We create a dynamic and supportive environment where children can develop fluency in both Mandarin and English while cultivating essential executive functioning skills.
We believe in a natural approach to language acquisition, allowing children to learn Mandarin and English effortlessly. Through a combination of immersive experiences, dedicated language instruction, and the Montessori method, we create an environment that fosters language development and cultural understanding.
In our bilingual program, children engage in a wide range of activities that promote cognitive flexibility and executive functioning skills. They explore languages through songs, patterns, and meaningful interactions, stimulating working memory and mental flexibility.
Besides presenting classical Montessori materials in our target languages, we incorporate teacher-made materials aligned with the Montessori philosophy and our Identity, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-racism curriculum topics. Teachers also integrate many songs, movement, games into the learning process. Some pieces are translated from English, and the familiar melodies offer children a general understanding of the songs.
In addition, your child's teacher or guide will create an immersive environment where your child can naturally acquire a second language and effortlessly switch between their native language of English and Mandarin throughout the day, fostering seamless bilingual language development.
We aim for children to become fully bilingual, developing understanding, speaking, reading, and writing skills in both Chinese and English. We recommend enrolling English-speaking children as young as possible to optimize their journey toward bilingualism.
